Kangaroos
In the Kangaroo room at Kirinari Early Childhood Centre, we provide a nurturing and educational environment for children from 3 years to school age. The environment is stimulating and offers a wide range of experiences for children to explore and develop in.
The competent and qualified staff that care for the children have had many years of experience and are continually updating knowledge to provide better quality care for the children. All carers are enthusiastic and genuinely interested in the development and individual needs of the children.
The daily program focuses on individual and group based activities which are geared to the needs, interests and strengths of the individual children. The program covers all areas of development - including emotional development, social development, physical development and language development. Each week a group of children have observations completed and a planned experience is designed for the following time they are in This ensures that the program is child-centred and remains stimulating for the entire group.
The room divided up into working areas including dramatic play, block play, computer program, book corner, art/craft, exploratory play, maths play and language development. Our outdoor environment is large with many native shrubs and trees throughout the environment. We teach an environmental policy that encourages us to compost food scraps, recycle paper, set up our vegetable garden where the children plant and look after our garden by weeding and watering and caring for our environment.
We attend many excursions throughout the year to locations all around Canberra and have visitors to the Centre to extend the program. Twice weekly we have a qualified music teacher come to the centre to help the children to develop musical knowledge using the Kodaly method.
Parents in the Kangaroo room play an active part in the development and running of the program. Parents assist with making resources, cleaning the environment so it remains safe and hygienic and adding idea's to the weekly program. Information to parents is available daily through verbal and written means.
