Possums
In the infants room at Kirinari Early Childhood Centre, we provide a nurturing and loving environment for children (from birth to 18 months) to grow and develop in. The environment is stimulating and offers many opportunities for the children to explore and learn.
The competent and qualified staff that care for the children have had many years of experience with some still currently studying to expand their knowledge. All carers provide a genuine and personal interest in and dialogue with each child as a developing individual.
The rooms are introducing emergent curriculum programming to enhance individuals areas of development and interest, as well as the groups. The program involves various types of equipment including: The jolly jumper, the donut, trampoline, rocking horse and an area that can be separated from the younger infants to allow for the older infants to participate in more stimulating experiences using the table and chairs. These older infants also have transition times when they are at the stage and age for moving up to the toddler (wombat's) room.
Activities are provided to the children to enhance their language, social, fine motor, emotional and cognitive skills. These include:
- Drawing with all sorts of mediums, for example: texta's, pencils, chalk etc.
- Mounting and dismounting from the rocking horse
- Pouring activities using water or birdseed
- Play dough and finger/brush painting
- Feet painting
- Music with a qualified music teacher that comes to the centre weekly
- Obstacle courses and puzzles
- The children are provided with fruit as a snack each morning and before fruit the carers and children participate in singing songs such as 'Twinkle, Twinkle', 'Little Peter Rabbit' and 'Open Shut Them'.
Parents are asked to provide lunch and an afternoon snack for their child, and to label all their child's belongings. The room also has a no glass policy and no nut policy in the centre. All food can be put into plastic containers and other sandwich fillings, such as vegemite or cheese can be used.
